About this opportunity

A&O Shearman’s London Training Contract provides two years of structured legal training through four six-month rotations known as seats. Trainees can gain experience across areas including finance, corporate, disputes, and energy, natural resources and infrastructure. There may also be opportunities to complete an international or client secondment. Trainees receive supervision from partners and associates, take responsibility for client work and develop skills in drafting, research, transaction management, negotiation and communication. The programme starts in March 2028.

Law and non-law students or graduates from any university who want to qualify as commercial solicitors and meet the firm’s academic requirements.

What you will gain

Four six-month seats, responsibility on client matters, supervision from experienced lawyers, practical legal training, professional development, contentious experience and potential international or client secondment opportunities. The salary is £56,000 in year one and £61,000 in year two, with a currently advertised newly qualified salary of £150,000.

Requirements

Applicants should have AAB at A-level or 136 UCAS points, or an equivalent qualification; seven GCSEs at grade 6 or above, including English and Mathematics; and be on track for or have achieved a 2:1 undergraduate degree. Mitigating circumstances are considered. Applicants should demonstrate ambition, collaboration, critical thinking, innovation and passion for commercial law.
