Everything you need to know about UK apprenticeships

Apprenticeships in the UK have expanded significantly in recent years, now spanning everything from software engineering and law to investment management and chartered accountancy. Higher and degree apprenticeships (Level 6 and 7) allow students to earn a full bachelor's or master's degree — or a professional qualification such as ACA or SQE — while working and earning a salary. Employers pay tuition fees, meaning apprentices graduate with qualifications and no student loan debt. School leaver apprenticeships (Level 3 and 4) start after A-Levels and provide a route into professional careers without attending university. Applications for structured apprenticeship programmes at large firms follow a similar process to graduate recruitment: online applications, assessments, and interviews. Many open in autumn for the following September start.
