Why degree apprenticeships are worth considering
Degree apprenticeships (Level 6) are one of the most financially advantageous entry routes into professional careers in the UK. Your employer covers your university tuition fees in full, and you earn a salary for the duration — typically three to four years. At the end, you hold a full bachelor's degree and often a professional qualification (such as ACA, SQE, or BCS), with several years of work experience already on your CV. This contrasts sharply with the traditional university route, where students typically graduate with £40,000–£60,000 in student loan debt and no work experience. Degree apprenticeships are available at major employers across accountancy (KPMG, Deloitte, PwC, EY), law (Clifford Chance, Linklaters, Allen & Overy), technology (IBM, Google, Cisco), and banking (Goldman Sachs, Bank of England). They are highly competitive — academic requirements are often equivalent to those for traditional university entry.
