About this opportunity
Jones Day’s Winter Vacation Scheme runs from 30 November to 11 December 2026 in its London office. The scheme replicates the firm’s distinctive non-rotational training contract, giving participants autonomy to experience work across different practice areas. Participants may conduct research, draft documents, attend client meetings and conference calls and visit court. An application for the scheme is also an application for a training contract commencing in September 2029, as Jones Day expects to recruit all trainees from its vacation-scheme candidates.
Who is it for?
Final-year students, graduates, postgraduates and career changers from law or non-law backgrounds. Penultimate-year students completing qualifying law degrees may also apply.
What you will gain
Real legal work, exposure to multiple practice areas, guidance from a trainee mentor, contact with lawyers and clients, networking and social opportunities, regular feedback and consideration for a September 2029 training contract.

Requirements
Applicants should have achieved or be predicted a strong 2:1 degree. Jones Day has no minimum school-grade requirements and uses Rare Recruitment’s contextual recruitment system. Candidates should demonstrate intellectual and analytical ability, communication, resourcefulness, drive, dedication, teamwork and genuine commitment to a legal career. Mitigating circumstances can be disclosed in the application.
How to apply
Register through Jones Day’s AllHires portal, complete the application form and submit a 300-word candidate statement. Applications are reviewed by Graduate Recruitment. Selected candidates attend a 40-minute online interview with two senior lawyers, followed by a London assessment centre containing a group exercise and one-to-one discussion. Assessment centres are scheduled for 13 October, 3 November and 10 November 2026. Successful candidates receive a vacation-scheme offer, with performance on the scheme determining training-contract offers.
