Requirements
Applicants should be in at least their penultimate year of university or be graduates or postgraduate students. Macfarlanes normally looks for candidates who have achieved or are on course to achieve a 2:1 degree. Applicants need intellectual curiosity, motivation, critical reasoning and a genuine interest in law. Participants must have the right to work in the UK, and student-visa holders may only attend if the scheme falls entirely outside their university term time.
How to apply
Complete the online application form and first-stage online assessment within seven days. The assessment uses scenarios from different practice areas to test situational judgement and critical reasoning. Successful candidates complete a second-stage immersive job simulation based on a fictional project team. Macfarlanes reviews applications after the deadline rather than on a rolling basis. Candidates may apply to either the Winter or Spring Vacation Scheme during the same recruitment cycle, but not both.
